A digital content company, hswinternational.com, has acquired the health information social networking site, dailystrength.org. Dailystrenght was launched in March of 2007, and it hosts approximately 500 communities that relate to issues such as illnesses, parenting, divorvce, and weight loss. According to the terms of the deal, dailystrenght will be paid $3.125 million in cash, and will receive an additional payment of up to $3.525 million, based on pageviews increase. It is interesting to note that the additional amount is based on pageviews increase, rather than revenues. 

Amazon.com, Inc. has announced its acquisition of AbeBooks, an internet source for used, rare, and out-of-print books. AbeBooks with its network of websites ( Abebooks.com, Abebooks.ca, Abebooks.co.uk, Abebooks.de, Abebooks.fr, Abebooks.it and Iberlibro.com) has been an online marketplace for books since 1996, with over 110 million books listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers from around the world. Amazon.com offers its customers millions of new, refurbished and used items. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

National Lampoon, Inc. announced it has acquired the website BarackObamaJokes.com (www.BarackObamaJokes.com) for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is part of the company’s continuing strategy to increase the size and strength of its National Lampoon Humor Network, currently the most trafficked humor sites on the Internet.

BarackObamaJokes.com is an online blog, aggregating political jokes and videos, focusing on our next United States President along with the overall political climate. The focus and content of the site complements both the National Lampoon brand of humor and the overall business strategy.

SheKnows.com has acquired BabyHold.com, a parenting and child naming resource. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. BabyHold.com is a community for mothers-to-be and will complement the cache of sites owned by SheKnows.com which include PregnancyAndBaby.com, PregnancyFashion.com and ChefMom.com.

BankRate is acquiring Bankaholic for $12.4 million, with another potential payout of $2.5 million over the next year. Bankrate provides financial information, and is further diversifying its financial product services by acquiring Bankaholic, that provides information on money markets accounts, saving accounts, and deposits.
