It looks like giant Microsoft settled on a tiny piece of Facebook (a 1.6 per cent share) for a massive $240million. That puts Facebook’s valuation at around $15 billion.

When we originally launched WebsiteBroker.com back in late 1997 the Internet was a different place. It was before the now infamous dot com crash. No one had even heard about blogs back then. Google was not even on the radar. Even back then, the valuation and price tags of websites with very little revenue or even prospects for revenue was astronomical. Eventually these high valuations were part of the reason that led to the crash.
As the commercial Internet evolved and matured things eventually turned around and valuations started being based on more concrete metrics and revenue started playing a bigger role in the actual calculations.
American Greetings buys Webshots.com
American Greetings acquired Webshots.com from CNET for $45 million. Originally, CNET had bought Webshots.com in July 2004 for about $70 million. Webshots is among the biggest photo sharing sites in competition with sites like Flickr, Photobucket and others. It received about 7 million unique monthly U.S. visitors as measured by The Nielsen Company and stores more than 400 million digital photos.
Vault.com acquired by private equity firm
Private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson announced a majority investment in on-line job board, Vault.com. Vault.com which was growing 30% to 50% a year has revenues reported to be around $9.6 million and is valued at $60 to $85 million.
NameMedia Acquires Photo.net
NameMedia, a leader in developing premium online communities, announced today the acquisition of Photo.net, a community site for photography enthusiasts with more than 600,000 registered users.
Photo.net, an online community for photographers to connect and discuss photography, explore galleries, share photographs, and learn more about the art of photography, was founded in 1993 as Philip Greenspun’s personal home page at MIT. The site has since grown to become one of the most active photography sites on the Web, receiving more than five million visitors each month. The Photo.net gallery boasts more than 2.5 million high quality user-uploaded images.

DevStart, Inc. acquires IdeaCafe.com
DevStart, Inc. (devstart.com), an Internet media company serving the web development and promotion markets, has acquired IdeaCafe.com (www.ideacafe.com), an online small business portal. Idea Café provides a range of free services, articles and other information aimed at helping small businesses get started and succeed. That includes everything from how to start a business and obtain financing, to tips for accounting, marketing, finding and keeping customers, marketing on the Internet, and more.
